I was inspired by the repetition work of Andy Warhol that includes the Campbell soup and the portrait of Marilyn Monroe. But the real inspiration of my final piece came from the repetition painting of MarilynMonroe. Andy Warhol make use of the same graphic but adopts different colour scheme for each square of the painting. In order to have a personal touch to it, I decided to have random arrangement of my 4 pictures which had different mood and when put together, it tells a story.

My final piece shows a series of 3 photographs of the same scene with a fourth picture which looks likea kelong in a dreamland. The mood that I wanted to portray in my final piece is sadness and loneliness.I wanted to make use of the 4 pictures to tell my audience a sad and lonely story.

The 3 photographs at the bottom corner show a sunset scene at a kelong which is my main focus of my final product. The reason why the 3 photographs are of the same scene is because I wanted to have a transition from the first photo to the third photo. The photographs changes from coloured to black and white to a illustrated version simply shows the sadness. From a beautiful, coloured sunset to a black and white sunset to memories which is portrayed by the illustrated version.

The first photograph, which is the coloured version, is the last frame of my movie. It is the scene after the lead actor and actress had to leave each other. That explains why there is a rock at the bottom corner of the photograph. It is to portray loneliness. If it is view in a video, the scene will slowly fades from colour to black and white and slowly to the illustrated version. I wanted to make use of this transition to tell my audience the time. When the coloured image fades to greyscale, it shows the period of time since it last happened. From greyscale to illustration shows that it has already became memories. As for the fourth picture, it shows more of my style, which are surrealism and graphic art. The mood I wanted to portray in thefourth picture is surrealism. It gives you a feeling that the place seems to be real yet does not exist. I putit after the illustrated piece is to further emphasize the time since it last happened. The scene of the breakuphappened so long that it will only appear in a dream. This explains why the colours and lighting are in this manner. The colour scheme i chose for the background is to signify the beach as it is the colours of sand. Thegraphic at the background is to show the waves of the seas and the birds that are always flying above the sea.

From the previous attempts, I found out that I could not use graphic as a background as it will look very weird especially if it is a blogskin.

Therefore, I have to design a background before adding the pictures to it. And most importantly, the background has to be plain and simple with not much colours. Another point to take note is that do not use graphic for background. Besides that, I also have to design a space for the text so that it will not look messy when displayed on screen. I hope this piece works.

Idea Development
Stage Four

I went for consultation and Shirlyn gave feedbacks to my works. It could be better and the overall looks very messy. I also realised that I have forgotten to add contrast to my pictures and therefore it looks a bit boring. Maybe I should change my design.

I remembered Shirlyn told me to work on the line of one of my works. Thus, I decided to change the background and drop the filmstrip so that my final piece will not look so messy.

After thinking through what Shirlyn had told me, I decided to use only one picture from the three to tell a story.
I added contrast and effects to the picture as I wanted to tell my audience a story through the transitions of the images.

This is what I have come up with but after much consideration, I still think that this picture does not really works. If I was to use it as my blogskin, it will also be very messy and the background picture will not look nice if it was displayed full screen. Therefore, I have to make further modification to it.

Idea Development
Stage Three

After gathering the pictures, it is time to do some editing and putting the pictures together with filmstrip and I am done with my final piece.

After adding the pictures into the filmstrip, I did editing to the edges of the pictures so that it will look more pleasant. However, it was rather plain so I decided to add a background to it. As you can see from the image, I change the background for my filmstrip into graphic art as to further emphasise on my style.

It was a day out at sentosa and I decided to shoot some photographs so that I could use it for my final piece.

I walked past a ‘kelong’ and I was very drawn towards it. I was even fascinated when the sunset was behind it. Therefore, I decided to use kelong as the theme of final work.

As I have mentioned earlier, my style is more towards surrealism and graphic art. Therefore, I wanted to fuse my styles with that of Andy Warhol’s.

After much idea generation, I decided to use filmstrips as the main focus of my final piece. To make it more interesting, I added more filmstrips at the background instead of only one standing alone.

Filmstrip done. ^-^ Now have to look for pictures to be put into the three empty spaces.

ME, myself and I

During the 1960s, Andy Warhol began to make paintings of famous American products such as the Campbell's Soup Can as well as paintings of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Troy Donahue and Elizabeth Taylor. His works revolve around American Pop (popular) Culture.
